A Collaborative Effort To Make Our World A Little Better For All Of Us

The Puppy With 10 Names

Meet Hank, he's a three week orphan puppy that my family took in. Him and his seven other brothers and sisters became orphans when their mother was a victim of a hit and run. His original family tried very hard to care for all of them, and now are trying very hard to find them good homes.

The moment we saw him we fell in love, and we just couldn't say no to this poor pup. So we took him home. With a quick stop at the petstore we bought everything we would need to nurse him until he's ready to feed his self.

Hank is another example of helping animals in need, with out the care from others, him and the rest of the litter would not have made it.

The first couple days

So we brought little hank home, and we introduced him to the family. And then we had to decide where this little guy would sleep. So I got our kids old baby cradle and put it together and made it his bed. It is quite spacious so he has plenty of room and space to grow, or until he doesn't need to sleep in there any more.

Next we had to decide how much Hank was suppose to eat. We bought him milk replacement from the petstore along with a nursing bottle. We tried to go by what the can said and by how much we think he ways but believe me when I say that this little pup can eat.

After a full belly and some rubbing he finally fell asleep in his bed, where he slept all night.  But in the morning it was time to start all over again, but the only new challenge would be letting the kids get to know Hank and watching how they behave with him.

They seemed to do good overall with him, they are very excited about having him around. And while they do get a little over excited and anxious around him, they seemed to get the general idea that he is fragile and we should not be rough with him.

This new tiny addition to our family, seems to be working out just perfect. We'll keep you updated on his growth and how he adapts to us and we to him.

Week two with Puppy

We have come to a rather difficult situation, when it comes to naming this little pup. First I decided to call him hank, but others suggested bear, and now it seems my husband has settled on Kody which is short for Kodiak. Cause we came to the decision that he resembles a kodiak bear.

I'm sure with in the next couple weeks his name will change again. We should settle on one permanent name before this poor guy gets confused.

I have to say that this guy gets bigger every day. Every morning he looks like he's grown overnight, he walks better and is beginning to run. He's become really playful and is always trying to chew on everything. We began weening him and introducing solid foods to him and he is drinking from his dish very well.

The only struggle right now is potty training him, and keeping him from having accidents all over the carpet.

7 Weeks Old

This little guy is just freaking adorable, and boy does he have energy. He's doing well with his potty training, having less and less accidents on the carpet. In a couple weeks when he has recieved all his shots he can start going outside to potty. And we can start to socialize him with other dogs. Petco has free puppy socialization classes nearly everyday of the week, so that will be something very good to take him to.

He just constantly wants to play with everyone, and right  now our biggest concern is his biting. I want him to learn that he can play with out biting all of us, especially the childern or their toys. So when we let him out for play time, we make sure he knows that he's only suppose to bite on his selection of chew toys.
